Frequently Asked Questions
  •   Who is The IIA?

Established in 1941, The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) is an international professional association with global headquarters in Lake Mary, Fla., USA. The IIA is the internal audit profession's global voice, recognized authority, acknowledged leader, chief advocate, and principal educator. Members work in internal auditing, risk management, governance, internal control, information technology audit, education, and security. Presently, The IIA serves more than 185,000 members in more than 170 countries and territories around the world.

  •   Why do BEAC and The IIA want to make this change?

The IIA’s Certification Candidate Management System (CCMS) can significantly streamline the BEAC administrative processes around applications, registrations, and payment processing though automation, and better serve certification candidates and current certificants. In addition, BEAC, The IIA, and The Auditing Roundtable believe there are great opportunities to further grow the current environmental health and safety audit certifications internationally through The IIA’s network of affiliates in 106 countries and 150,000 certified individuals globally.

  •   Do I have to become a member of The IIA?

No. Membership in The IIA will continue to be voluntary and separate from the certifications.

  •   What will happen after the BEAC certifications transition to The IIA processes?

Current BEAC certified individuals will continue to hold their certifications and be recognized as certified following the same Continuing Professional Development (CPD) reporting requirements. The only thing that will change is the actual process for CPD reporting which will now be done through an automated process. Payment of the annual fee can be securely completed online. Current BEAC applicants will not lose any progress they have already achieved, but will register and pay for any new exam registrations through an automated process. New candidates will be able to complete the application and registration process, including payments, through the automated system.

  •   Will BEAC lose accreditation of the CPEA from CESB?

No. The organizational structure of the BEAC certifications will be set up to conform to the CESB requirements.

  •   What’s not changing?

There are no plans to discontinue ANY BEAC certification program. There are also currently no plans to make any changes in the pricing of the applications, exam registrations, or renewal fees. In addition, until the normal content review and validation processes are completed, there will be no changes in the content of any of the exams. Once the administration processes have been automated, The IIA plans to review the current exam delivery process with ExamSoft to determine if there are ways to expand and enhance the exam delivery process.

  •   What are the advantages to the BEAC certifications through this merger?

The IIA anticipates it can reduce costs associated with administration of the program and enhance the candidate experience by automating the application, registration, communication, and payment processes. The IIA also believes it can streamline the CPD reporting processes by automating those through the online administrative system processes. In addition, The IIA can significantly expand the global awareness and acceptance of the EHS certifications through its global network of institutes that have the advantage of being able to market and promote the programs locally.

  •   How and where will I send my forms in the future?
    • The IIA implemented the CCMS in 2008. CCMS is the system of record for all IIA global certification programs. CCMS is a safe, secure, electronic platform that provides candidates 24 hour access to their certification status and records, allowing for self-administration of an individual’s certification process. Through CCMS, candidates can complete the following activities:
      • Applications to certification programs.
      • Examination registration.
      • CPD reporting.
      • Annual renewal processing.
      • Ordering Certificates and more.
    • All certification activity that was previously handled through paper forms will be automated through an online website. Once your information has been set up in CCMS, you will be provided with a link to a CCMS Users Guide for more information.
  •   How will I submit documents in support of my application or CPD reports after the change?

The IIA uses a secure document upload portal that candidates can use to transmit documentation to The IIA. The document upload portal is a secure real-time system that sends your documents directly to The IIA’s Global Certifications staff. More information on the upload portal will be sent once your CCMS profile has been set up.

  •   How will I receive my certificate?

Initially your certificate will be shipped via the same method it is shipped today. As we continue the integration of all BEAC services into The IIA process, you will be notified of how changes could affect you.

  •   Can I still order a frame for my certificate?

Yes. You will still be able to order your certificate frame through the current vendor. As we continue the integration of all BEAC services into The IIA process, you will be notified of how changes could affect you.

  •   Can I still order a stamp once I am certified?

Yes. You will still be able to order your stamp through the current process. As we continue the integration of all BEAC services into The IIA process, you will be notified of how changes could affect you.

  •   Will I still get a wallet card?

Until the transition is fully completed, wallet cards will continue to be issued. Once the transition is completed, The IIA will review the need for wallet cards on an ongoing basis.
