The IIA Certification Registry

Demonstrate Your Credential With The IIA Certification Registry

The IIA is excited to announce the launch of The IIA Certification Registry. The IIA Certification Registry is an up-to-date record of individuals who have earned an IIA certification and maintain it by reporting continuing professional education (CPE) to keep their credential active. All IIA active certification holders who choose to voluntarily opt-in will be included in the registry. This is an opportunity for employers and recruiters to verify your certification.

The IIA Standards require continuing professional education (CPE) of all internal auditors. The IIA’s Professional Certification Board requires all certification holders to complete and report CPE annually so their certifications remain in good standing. Individuals who do not meet the annual CPE requirement will not be included in The IIA Certification Registry nor can they claim the certification status.

Access the registry now.

Certified individuals can log in to their CCMS account and opt in under their profile. To opt-in, go to Help and open a new case to request to opt-in to the registry.

What information is included in The IIA Certification Registry?

The certification registry will only include the following information:

  • Certification holder’s first and last name
  • Certificate ID
  • Certification status
  • Country of residence

No personal contact information, such as email, physical address, or phone number, will be included in the registry. Inclusion in the registry is voluntary. If you have an active certification and choose not to be listed in the certification registry, your information will not be included.

FAQ
  •   What is a certification registry?

A certification registry is an up-to-date registry of individuals who have earned a certification and maintain it via continuing professional education.

  •   Why is The IIA creating a certification registry?

Becoming certified is a point-in-time achievement. The IIA Standards require continuing professional education (CPE) to ensure the certified individual’s knowledge and skills remain current. Individuals who do not meet the annual CPE requirement may not claim the certification status or use the credential(s) after their name. A certification registry makes it easy for potential employers and others to verify an individual’s certification.

  •   What is the requirement to be included in the certification registry?

Individuals must have a Certified (active) status to be included in the certification registry.

  •   What are the certification statuses?

Determine your certification status by viewing your profile in our Certification Candidate Management System (CCMS).

See the chart below for status definitions:

    STATUS DEFINITION USE OF CERTIFICATION
Certified (active) An individual has achieved certification status AND has reported required CPE. May demonstrate certification with inclusion in a certification registry, business card, or other documents.
Inactive-grace period An individual has not reported CPE for the prior year. May not claim certification (remove from business cards and documents) until CPE is reported.
Inactive An individual has not reported CPE for more than 2 years. May not claim certification (remove from business cards and documents) until reinstated.
Retired An individual is no longer in the workforce. May not claim certification until reinstated.

If your certification status is Inactive-grace or Inactive, visit the CPE Policy to learn what is required to return to a Certified (active) status for inclusion in the certification registry.

Certified individuals can reinstate an inactive or retired certification by submitting a reinstatement form and associated fee within their CCMS profile.

  •   How can I check my certification status?

Certified individuals can log in to their CCMS profile to determine their current certification status.

  •   What if I am in an “inactive” status and would like to be included in the certification registry?

Candidates who are in an “inactive” status will not be included on the certification registry. To be included, candidates must complete a reinstatement form to reactivate their certification and opt-in during the reinstatement process.

  •   If I am pursuing an IIA certification, will I be included in the certification registry?

No, only candidates who have achieved the Certified (active) status will be included in the certification registry.

  •   Will my personal information be shared?

No. The only information available on the certification registry is the certification holder’s name, certificate ID, certification status, and country of residence. Please see The IIA Privacy Policy for additional details.

  •   What is the benefit of being listed on the certification registry?

All IIA certifications will be included in the registry, which opens to the general public in 2019, making it easy for employers and recruiters to verify IIA credentials.

  •   Is there a fee to be included in the certification registry?

No. The IIA’s certification registry is a benefit to our members and certified individuals.

  •   How can I add my name and IIA credential(s) to the registry?

Currently, you can either opt-in to participate when reporting annual CPE or you can log into your CCMS account, select Help, and open a new case to request to opt-in to the registry.

  •   What if I choose not to participate?

Individuals whose certification(s) or qualification(s) are not active, or who choose not to participate, will not be included in the certification registry.
