IIA Announces 2017–18 Global Board of Directors

Slate of volunteer executive leaders approved at annual business meeting

SYDNEY (July 27, 2017) — The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) announced this week election of J. Michael Peppers, CIA, QIAL, CRMA, as chairman of the organization’s 2017-18 Global Board of Directors. The election of Peppers and the Global Board was held at The IIA’s Annual Business Meeting following The IIA’s 76th International Conference.

The IIA is the largest organization representing the interests of the profession and provides ethical and professional guidance, continuing education, and certifications to nearly 195,000 members worldwide.

“I am thrilled about Mike’s election as our new global chairman,” said IIA President and CEO Richard Chambers, CIA, QIAL, CGAP, CCSA, CRMA. “The wealth of experience and high-level energy Mike brings to the role will serve The IIA well as the profession rises to challenges and opportunities presented by a dynamic and complex business environment.”

As Chief Audit Executive (CAE) for The University of Texas System, Peppers oversees the internal audit function for a university system that serves more than 228,000 students with an annual operating budget of $17.9 billion.

Peppers has chosen as his chairman’s year theme #PurposeServiceImpact. In his travels to affiliates, chapters and other organizations around the world during the coming months, Peppers will challenge internal auditors to “take a cue from our social-media-obsessed culture to identify, unify and connect around purpose, service and impact” in a way that is meaningful to their organizations.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to give back to an organization that has given so much to me and my career, as it has to hundreds of thousands of internal auditors around the world,” Peppers said.

During a career that began in public accounting and spans more than 30 years, Peppers has led progressive internal audit activities at major not-for-profit organizations in higher education and health care. Previously, he was Vice President and Chief Audit Officer at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Director of Audit Services at The University of Texas Medical Branch, Inspector General at the University of South Florida, and a Senior Auditor for Price Waterhouse.
